未标题-2.png  Background

▪ Base stations have been a large electricity consumer since its 24/7 operation, resulting in high electricity costs that require more effective cost-reduction measures;

▪ The expansion of 5G infrastructure is dramatically increasing the number of base stations and leading to a sharp increase inpower demand;

▪ The smaller coverage of 5G requires a station density 3-4 times that of 4G and increases total energy consumption over 9-fold, resulting in soaring costs for operators;

▪ Driven by the "dual carbon" goals, operators must urgently cut base station energy use and increase green electricity adoption through measuress like local energy trading, green electricity certificate purchases, and photovoltaic plants self-construction.

未标题-2.png  Introduction of Solar-Grid Hybrid System

A Solar-Grid Hybrid System refers to an additional system on the existing power supply system of the base station. More details are as follows:

▪ Utilizing idle spaces such as rooftops and surrounding areas, the adding solar system is installed as a supplementary energy source to the grid power. Solar energy is prioritized during daytime to generate power and gain benefits.

▪ The system consists of PV modules, MPPT controllers, DC meters, 4G gateways, and other components.

▪ Currently, there are two main solutions: series connection and parallel connection.

Solar-Grid Hybrid Solution (Series Solution)

▪ The Series Solution refers to connect the panels in series to multiple strings and connect the strings in parallel to formulate photovoltaic array, and then the unified input to Ipandee solar charge controller. The controller tracks the real-time maximum power point of the overall photovoltaic array to supply power to the busbar.

▪ Taking 8 photovoltaic panels as an example, 4 photovoltaic panels are connected in series to form 1 string, and 2 strings are connected in parallel to input. Below is the wiring diagram:

Solar-Grid Hybrid Solution (Parallel Solution)

▪ The Parallel Solution refers to equip a independent MPPT solar charge controller (adapter) for each photovoltaic panel, and integrate to the main control center (Smart Combiner Box) and output to the busbar to power the DC load.

▪ Take 8 photovoltaic panels as an example. The wiring diagram is shown below:
