Saudi Arabia plans a new 2.6GW photovoltaic project, of which 600MW will be open for public bid this year.

According to Saudi media reports, Saudi Arabia plans to create a 2.6 GW photovoltaic project in the vicinity of Mecca to optimize the country's power structure and complete the sustainable development of the national economy.
The Saudi Ministry of Power and Mecca signed a memorandum of understanding on the intention at the second Mecca Economic Forum on Sunday.
The 2.6 GW project will be developed by the Saudi Power Ministry in collaboration with the Mecca Development Authority and will be implemented in two phases.
According to the memorandum of understanding, the Saudi Renewable Power Development Office will open tenders for 600MW of this year, and the rest will be developed by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund and its partners.
Saudi Arabia is now shifting from fuel-fired power to renewable power generation. In the past year, Saudi Arabia also endorsed the creation of a 300MW utility-planned photovoltaic power plant in the northern AI Jouf area.
